Indigenous Peoples’ Day is intended to create aw

Indigenous Peoples’ Day is intended to create awareness for how we can uplift and amplify the Indigenous voices of those we live among.

Please join us as we continue to educate ourselves on how we can actively support causes to resist their on-going oppression and celebrate their culture each and every day.

Consider the following:

• Discover the original caretakers of the land on which you live @nativelandnet. Learn more about the Indigenous group and become stewards along side them.
• Get curious about Indigenous organizations like @honortheearth and @stopline3pipeline to learn more about their culture and how our decisions continue to impact them. We can actively support Indigenous peoples’ organizations that encourage education and action for long-term solutions.
• Encourage activism in children and open the door to conversation with books like We Are Water Protectors by Carole Lindstrom

RVWS’s Advocates for Anti-Racism and Equity will be raising awareness surrounding the expansion of pipelines and its impact on Indigenous communities. We will host an on-line screening of @necessitythemovie on Friday, 11/5. Every ticket purchase will be entered into a raffle at the end of the evening for a handknit shawl. Proceeds exceeding the cost of the viewing will benefit future AARE efforts to educate the community about Indigenous culture and causes. Beginning in 5th grade at River Valley, students are exposed to and instructed in more artistic media, such as graphite pencils, charcoal, pastels, and oil crayons. Shadowing, contrast, perspective drawing and portraiture round out the student’s experience through 8th grade. These beautiful charcoal and pastel flowers are from our 6th grade class.
