Educational Improvement Tax Credit

EITC

The Educational Improvement Tax Credit allows many Pennsylvania residents to direct a large portion of their PA income tax to River Valley’s financial aid fund. This is a way that you can support the school in a BIG way by directing money that you already owe to Pennsylvania directly to RVWS.

The Central Pennsylvania Scholarship Fund is now helping River Valley administer our EITC program. This streamlines the process for families, makes the paperwork simple, and ensures you receive the full amount of tax credit that you are eligible for.

Some Frequently Asked Questions about EITC:

Who qualifies?

Any individual who owes income tax in Pennsylvania; individuals also must work for a for-profit company, or own a minimum of one share of stock in a company that does business in PA (this includes Netflix, GM, Target, etc.). The minimum donation is $3,500, which is offset by a 90% PA tax credit. In order to take advantage of the full credit, your PA tax liability must be greater than $3,500.

How does it work?

Donors complete a Joinder Agreement (a simple one-page document) which acts as a reservation for the amount of credit you wish to apply for. You will need to estimate your tax liability for the current year in order to plan a donation. There are a limited number of credits available and reservations are taken on a first come, first served basis.  Special Purpose Entity Donor Guide

When do I have to commit to an EITC donation?

There are two cycles – one in the spring and one in the fall. In order to reserve credits for this tax year, you must submit your joinder agreement to CPSF early in the fall (the earlier the better). Another round will open in the spring. *DECEMBER 2023 UPDATE: THERE ARE STILL CREDITS AVAILABLE AND CPSF IS ACCEPTING JOINDERS (WITH CHECKS) UNTIL DECEMBER 28, 2023* Download a Joinder Agreement

How much of my donation does River Valley Receive?

River Valley receives 100% of your donation. The Central Pennsylvania Scholarship Fund pays its expenses through bank interest alone, allowing it to provide the administration services at no cost to the school or to the donor.
