River Valley Waldorf School sits amid woods and fields, near the small river-towns and villages that dot the Delaware River along the Pennsylvania/New Jersey border.  We are conveniently just over an hour from both New York City and Philadelphia; about 40 minutes from the Lehigh Valley. Housed in a former public elementary school building, our programs include grades one through eight, kindergarten, nursery and parent-child classes. Available Positions

Eurythmy Block Teacher

River Valley Waldorf School is seeking a trained pedagogical eurythmist to teach a block of eurythmy in September/October of 2018 and a second block during the spring (April – June time frame) for a total 6-8 weeks. The blocks will include approximately 15 eurythmy lessons per week for kindergarten and grade school classes.  A piano accompanist will be available for lessons.

First Grade Teacher –  Fall, 2018

We are looking for a dynamic, Waldorf-trained teacher to join our dedicated faculty circle beginning in the 2018-19 school year. Our generous compensation package includes full tuition remission, health insurance and a 403B pension plan.

Kindergarten/Nursery Assistant –  Fall, 2018

RVWS is accepting applications for Kindergarten/Nursery assistant positions for the 2018/2019 school year.  Hours are from 8:00 am – 2:00 pmMonday through Friday.  No experience is necessary, however a love for children, interest in and appreciation for Waldorf education and willingness to learn are absolute requirements!  Please send a letter of interest to Robbie Miller at rmiller@rivervalleyschool.org.  .

Music Teacher –  Fall, 2018

Instruction includes general music classes for grades 1 through 6, conducting the 5/6 and 7/8 choruses, conducting the 5/6 and 7/8 orchestras. The Music teacher prepares students for assemblies in collaboration with the class teacher, may help with music for class plays and may be involved with a larger middle school musical production. They coordinate individual, on-site instrumental music lessons with outside teachers. The Music teacher holds the consciousness of the whole music program and is responsible for delivering the curriculum.

Qualifications:

  • An understanding of Waldorf school music pedagogy and/or Waldorf teaching experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience teaching elementary and middle-school students
  • Experience conducting chorus and orchestra
  • Proficiency in piano and/or an orchestral instrument
  • Certificate or MEd in Waldorf Education preferred
  • Open to colleagueship, mentoring and the development of strong, collaborative professional relationships.

Spanish Teacher grades 1 through 8, part-time Fall, 2018

RVWS is looking for an experienced teacher who is a native Spanish speaker, well versed in Latin American cultural life and knowledgeable in the fundamentals of written and conversational Spanish with effective teaching skills that nurture and help develop the natural capabilities in children. The ideal candidate would have a deep love for working with children, a creative approach to teaching grammar, enthusiasm as well as the ability to work well with colleagues.

The successful candidate will be familiar with Waldorf teaching and will be expected to create lessons based on Waldorf curriculum guidelines and deliver them in a lively, dynamic and structured class environment. Waldorf teaching experience preferred.

Math teacher grades 7 and 8, part-time Fall, 2018

River Valley Waldorf School is looking for an experienced Math instructor to teach 7th and 8th grade basics. The ideal candidate would have an affinity for adolescents, a creative approach to teaching, enthusiasm for the subject matter and the ability to work well with colleagues. Familiarity with Waldorf education is a plus.

There will be three instructional periods per week for each grade plus planned assignments to be left with the class teacher for use during a proctored study hall. We expect that homework will be assigned, collected and corrected regularly. The Math teacher will need to be available to hold parent-teacher conferences twice each school-year, in addition to being available for additional parent communication as necessary. The Math teacher will provide transcript grades mid-year and year’s end as well as written progress reports for each student at the end of the school-year and Math teacher references and referrals for high school, as requested.

Parent-child Class Teacher –  Immediate opening

The Garden Gate teacher leads classes with small groups of parents and young children. The teacher fosters a nurturing environment in class where teachers and parents cooperate in purposeful activity, which inspires the children in their play. Teachers lead by example, using beautiful, age-appropriate songs, rhymes and stories to aid parents in creating a healthy and harmonious rhythm for their child’s day. The weekly program includes adult crafts and child development discussions. The teacher also provides study materials to assist parents in deepening their understanding of the young child.

River Valley offers two, 16-week sessions of Garden Gate per year. Classes are offered several mornings a week from 9:00 am until 11:30 pm. RVWS is currently looking for someone to lead classes on one or more of the following days: Tuesday, Friday, Saturday. This is a part-time, hourly position.

Requirements:

  •             Waldorf Early Childhood training
  •             Lifeways or Sophia’s Hearth, a plus
  •             Experience in leading a parent/child program preferred.

Gardener/Gardening Teacher –  Fall, 2018

River Valley Waldorf School is looking for an enthusiastic, gardening teacher to work with our first through fifth grades beginning in July 2018.  Between now and the end of this school year there is opportunity to observe and/or assist our current teacher which would provide a new hire an invaluable opportunity to prepare for the following school year.

This position requires knowledge of child development, Waldorf curriculum, as well as biodynamic and organic gardening.  This is a part time teaching position of eight classroom hours per week, as well as additional weekly gardening hours for maintenance, planning, planting and harvesting crops.
