Woodworking
Woodwork is Taught in Grades 5 - 8
The woodshop develops the students' awakening intellectual consciousness by awakening the hand. They apply thinking to the task at hand and see beautiful results. Students develop physical dexterity and a heightened sensitivity to the physical world. The work responds to the child’s inherent sense of utility and beauty with suitable tasks that are within the scope of their technical ability - carving an egg, a spoon, a toy, a shelf. Through understanding the qualities of wood, safety, healthy conversation, ecology, altruism, and thinking, the children develop skills to build their self-confidence, self-reliance, and independence. The children awaken their sense of aesthetic, respond to the practical in form and experience the joy of work.
